I have enjoyed being outdoors from an early age and I hope I have passed this richness to my children by taking them hiking in the Mournes, mucking about in kayaks on Lough Erne and above all orienteering with them. More recently, with the kids all off having their own adventures I have been coaching juniors in orienteering. And for myself, I run, cycle (slowly), and travel to the more beautiful parts of the UK and Ireland. Something many don't know about me is that I am also a budding lepidopterist- I have a moth trap which comes on holiday with me too! I firmly believe that we are inter-dependent on the natural world. Nature gives back to us when we spend time noticing, learning and being in wilder places. And the benefits go both ways - the wilder places need us to be invested in them too.
My work life has always been people-centred. I worked for many years in the NHS as a physiotherapist. More recently I have been teaching Pilates, both to groups and more therapeutically to individuals. I am an active orienteering coach and I volunteer once a week at a local wildlife centre. I am looking forward to being involved in Positive Steps Outdoors and hopefully learning from other peoples' experiences and stories.
