Ellie Hobson - Coach
I’m fortunate to have had a Dad and Mum who are free spirits and wild adventurers. As a family we spent many Summer holidays camping in Portstewart, in Portnoo, Donegal and in the Pyrenees in France. Nature has always been a place where I’ve found my true self, whether that’s skiing, walking or wild swimming. Coastal and forest walks with my dog Cara somehow return me to myself when life at times can feel overwhelming. I’m passionate about promoting the natural health benefits that being in nature brings to our bodies, minds and souls. In our Western modern world, I believe that we have largely lost our connection to nature and it’s an important connection to restore if we are to avert both the climate and mental health crises we find our world in these days and I feel privileged to have the opportunity to play a small part in this recovery process.
I’m an experienced integrative counsellor working in a person-centred and psychodynamic way. This means being present with clients while they are processing their pain and also looking back to their past in order to find threads of connection & understanding so that they can move forward. I work outdoors with clients utilising nature & movement to facilitate healing. Over the past 20 years scientific research now shows that not only our minds but our bodies store trauma and I believe that movement and simple breath work plays an important part in the process of healing trauma which is why I have chosen to take my counselling practice outdoors and to incorporate these elements in the work I do. In 2019, I established a small therapeutic outdoor therapy practice called Wild Therapy and have had the privilege of journeying alongside people as they process their pain and doing this in the great outdoors. In 2018, I had the experience of working in a therapeutic, trauma informed children’s home with Moray Council in 2018 which helped to inform the way I work with both adults and children who have been deeply traumatised. I’m excited to be part of the team with Positive Steps Outdoors and am expectant about what we can offer together.
