Brendan Major - Mountain Leader
There is nothing like a career in offices and board rooms to give one a real and intense appreciation of the outdoors. So it was with me; following many years working for various charities and the NHS in the end I accepted that outdoors and sometimes wet was much better than indoors and usually bored. I now split my time between the Antrim Hills and the more rugged terrain of Donegal’s mountain ranges, though I have hiked in every county in Ireland and completed a number of the island’s long distance trails.
I am a qualified teacher, a Mountain Leader, a wilderness first aid instructor, a Community First Responder, and a Leave No Trace trainer. I have spent time as a deputy leader of one of Northern Ireland’s Mountain Rescue Teams and when not working with Positive Steps Outdoors I manage a small Approved Activity Provider organisation offering challenging expeditions to Duke of Edinburgh/President’s Award groups.
